Second Lt at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Employed by the State of Tennessee from 1959-1987 retiring as Assistant Commissioner of Human Resources . Executive Director of Mountain T.O.P. (Tennessee Outreach Project) until retirement in 2005. Wife Lorena (Johnson) owns Tennessee Memories in Green Hills. Two daughters.  

Barbara Robinson Bomar , P.O. Presently working in the Berkley County Sheriff's Office as Training Coordinator and Crime Analyst. Two children, three grandchildren.

Both are retired now. Enjoying teaching bridge on cruise ships and living on a golf course. Two sons, three grandchildren.

Worked for Mobil Oil Company (58-61); US Forest Service (82-67); Johnson Engineering since 1967. Three children, three grandchildren.

Dot Jordan Hodges , 633 Rochelle Drive, Nashville, Tennessee 37220 (615) 833-4701, plumdot@webtv.net . She and her husband have eighteen grandchildren and one great grandchild between them. Retired now, but still actively involved in ministry which has led them to Russia, Cuba, Jamaica, and China.

Employed by the Red Cross in various capacities from Public Relations Director to Disaster Operations for over twenty years. Three children.

John Kepler, 256 Los Cerros Dr., San Luis Obispo, CA 93405, (805) 594-1820, Westhigh@keplercom.com, Peabody (BS), Vanderbilt (MA), worked for IBM for 32 years. Moonlighted as a professional actor making nearly 100 commercials, industrial films, and an occasional drama. After IBM became a professional speaker/trainer (business seminars) and was recently certified as a Personal Fitness Trainer. One son, two grandchildren. Wife Jan is an interior designer.

Jim Lewis, 2516 Sherwood Drive, SE, Decatur, Alabama 35601, (256) 353-1557, lewisjl@pclnet.net. Graduated from Vanderbilt in 1958 (Electrical Engineering). Went to work for the Army Ballistic Missile Agency in Huntsville, Alabama which was transferred to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in 1960. Worked on the development of ground and flight digital computer systems until retirement in1994. Two children, four grandchildren.

Served as faculty member at University of California and University of Virginia. Received PhD at Berkeley. Professor at University of Washington since 1970. Chairman of Seattle City Planning Commission and head of the International Urban Planning and Environment Association for the last nine years. Author of several publications in the area of growth and planning. Two children. Two grandchildren.

Gene Rutledge , 404 Julius Street,  Lake Charles, Louisiana 70605, (337) 478-7093, genenoble@suddenlink.net U.S. Air Force 1954-1959. Belmont College (major in Church Music). Minister at churches in Fayetteville, Tennessee; Columbus, Ohio; Dayton, Ohio; Detroit, Michigan; Vermillion, Ohio; Louisville, Kentucky; and Lake Charles, Louisiana. Agent with Liberty Life Insurance since 1994. Semi-retired. Five children, nine grandchildren.

Alyse Morris Sprintz , Nashville, Tennessee. Masters in Special Education. Author of "Relationships-The Missing Links". Operating a furniture, accessory, and design store since 1981. Three children, five grandchildren.

David Sugerman , 11013 Boston Drive, Cooper City, Florida 33026, dlsugerman@earthlink.net.  Moved to Miami after graduation from medical school to train in Internal Medicine and Nephrology. Opened the first free standing dialysis unit in Broward County, Florida. Retired. Three children, two grandchildren.

Moved to Ohio in 1957 and taught Special Education for over thirty years. Retired in 1999 and opened an antiques/collectible shop. Five children, nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren.

Nashville Symplony (double bass) 1957-1977. Band Director Dabvidson Academy 1990-1995. Presently Band Diorector and Fine Arts teacher at Watertown High School. Adjunct Assistant Professor Volunteer State Community College. Two sons.

Shirley Ann Frazier West,  3506 Amanda Avenue, Nashville, Tennessee 37215, (615) 297-2874,  lux4488@aol.com.  Career has led her to Florida, Oklahoma, and back to Tennessee. Earned doctorate from Vanderbilt. Presently  self employed. Four children.

Elaine Yarbrough Wolf, 2104 Island Point, Lexington, Kentucky 40502, (606)269-6136, elenayw@yahoo.com.  Married Lyle Wolf shortly after graduation from West. Their travels around the world have put her in contact (or close proximity) with Alex Haley, Colin Powell, and Queen Elizabeth. Founding member and former President of Bluegrass Engineers Auxiliary. Board of Directors of the Lexington Deaf Oral School. Founding member of the Midway College for Women Development Council. Three children, six grandchildren.

Obituaries

Margaret (Peggy)Jones Blanks Blackmer, died February 23, 2006 in Lady Lake, Florida. Survived by husband, Robert (Bob) Blackmer;daughter Mary Batey, one grandson;one great-grandson;two stepchildren; three step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Beverly Ann Smith Cook, September 25, 1936 - February 21, 2003. Survived by her husband of 46 years, Jakie Donald Cook; daughters Leigh Ann Richards and Linda Jill Clarke; son John Benjamin Cook; and nine grandchildren.An active sports enthusiast she participated competitively in golf, tennis and swimming. A member of St. George's Episcopal Church, she was active in numerous charitable organizations including the Red Cross and American Cancer Society. A junior golf scholarship was established in her name.

Sara Katherine Cooper Ewing, died January 31, 2000 in Los Gatos, California. Survived by her husband George; sons Dayton and Chris; and two grandchildren. Sara moved to the San Jose area after her marriage to George in 1963. In 1973 they moved to a remote area in the Santa Cruz mountains eight years before electricity arrived. At that location they endured mudslides, fires and the 1989 earthquake. An active volunteer she was the first secretary of the Mountain Bible Church after the earthquake.  

William Phelps Greer, died September 22, 1993 of cancer in Los Angeles, California. After high school Bill attended Vanderbilt and then went on to study theatre at the Pasadena Playhouse. In 1958 he went to New York in search of work where he roomed with future stars Dustin Hoffman (a classmate at the Pasadena Playhouse), Robert Duval, and Gene Hackman. Unable to find steady work he returned to Hollywood and under the stage name of William Cort began a movie (Banning, Big Hand for the Little Lady, Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, Glasses Houses, and Ghosts) and TV (Threes Company, The Judge, Golden Girls) acting and directing career that spanned four decades.

Judy Payne Mason, After high school Judy attended Vanderbilt University, graduating in 1958 with a BA in History. At Vanderbilt she met Frank Mason and they were married shortly after graduation. They had two sons, Robert and William and lived in Boston, Detroit, Sao Paulo, Brazil and San Francisco before Judy's diagnosis with breast cancer in 1989 and her death in 1991.

Pat Forehand Morrison,  died  November 21, 2004. Married to classmate Jerry Morrison who predeceased her by three months. Survived by two daughters Deborah Kay Morrison of Frederick, Maryland and Linda Gail Morrison of Arlington, Virginia, brothers Jack Forehand and Paul Forehand, and sister Joyce Taylor.

Jerry Emery Morrison,   Married classmate Pat Forehand two years after graduation from high school. Retired after a 38 year career with Cummings Sign Company. Survived by his wife and two daughters, Dr. Deborah Morrison (Mark Fortini) and Linda Morrison, a sister, Ann Rice, and a brother, Bob.

Dorothy Elizabeth Neuhoff, died October 19, 2002 in Nashville. Survived by her mother, Lelia Garrott Neuhoff; two brothers; and three sisters. Dottie was a member of the Nashville Striders and active at WPLN radio, Nashville's oldest continuous public radio station.

William E. (Billy) Owens, died December 4, 2004 in Nashville. Survived by his wife Edie, son William J.Owens, and brother Robert. Billy attended Belmont College and Birmingham Southern on a basketball scholarship after playing for the 1954 State champions. Billy was the unsung "third man" on that team who usually drew the asignment of guarding the opposition's best player. After college he worked for Steiner-Liff and Charter Industrial Scrap Company until his retirement.

Edith Sue Smith Heltzel, Entered nurses' training in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1954 and graduated in 1957 as an RN. Her nursing career in the Oklahoma City area continued while raising a son and daughter. In 1972 she volunteered to accompany a newborn child in an ambulance to Children's Hospital and was killed in a car crash that claimed the lives of four people. In addition to her children she was survived by her husband Daniel Heltzel.
