West End High School opened in September 1937 with 823 students and 30 faculty members. Originally it was a high school only serving grades 10-12. Later when a junior high school was added the enrollment swelled to 1,025. In 1954 the enrollment was down to 635 and 30 faculty. In 1968 the high school was discontinued and it was renamed West End Middle School. On April 25, 2004 the building was placed on the National Historic Register. After a $7,600,000 renovation the school was rededicated on August 30, 2007. The renovations include air conditioning and an Alumni Room
